We have chicks! Oystercatcher chicks (actually for a few weeks now) and as of saturday, May 22, piping plover chicks! Four have hatched from one nest on Winthrop Beach... I think the first in the state. The urban plovers are thriving once again. Sadly the first plover nest in the state (found April 13th) was due to hatch on May 17th, but that day also brought a mini nor'easter that washed away numerous nests, including all four on the beach in Hyannisport where the first nest was due to hatch.And with losses and successes, we start the familiar ups and downs of a beach nesting bird breeding season...
